The Cause
On April 2, 2011 it will be time again for the third annual Love For The Ladies Team Rail Jam hosted by Beaver Creek Resort in Beaver Creek, Colorado. As we all become more painfully aware, many of our fighting Mommas succumb to the dark and deathly grip of Breast Cancer. This long and difficult journey is a challenge of strength and hope that should not be taken on alone. Love For the Ladies is a unique opportunity for friends of Beaver Creek and the surrounding area to support local women during the heart wrenching challenge that affects us all as a community.
Over the past two years, Love For The Ladies has raised over $18,000, of which all proceeds go to The Vail Breast Cancer Awareness Group. The event consists of groups of 3 snowboarders and skiers rallying through the terrain park dressed in themed costumes on the Beaver Creek Mountain. With a minimum of one lady in the mix and the shredders costumed out in themed décor, this day of unity seeks to create many good laughs and great times remembered forever.
The groups who have signed up on the website race each other to raise the most money. As groups search high and low for donations from corporate sponsors, family, and friends prior to the event, big numbers roll in and lives of our local women are helped for the better. Great support comes from all over the snowboard and ski industry including Volcom, Smith, Skullcandy, and NeverSummer.
It was in 2009 that Justine Nadherny created LFTL for her mother, Andrea Francis. Love For The Ladies was created as a token of support and a platform for awareness for all of those affected by the disease. Andrea was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer in 2006 yet never let it diminish her spirit or will to live each day to the fullest. This year Justine will be attending the event without the physical presence of her mother, for it was on September 2, 2010, that Andrea Francis left our earth but never our hearts.
